Briefly about the Hungary pass and County pass
Briefly about the Hungary pass and County pass configuration options:
In Hungary, you can buy both a Hungary pass and a County pass to use trains and interurban buses. Hungary has 19 counties. The 19 types of County passes (zone passes) can only be used within the area of the county. The Hungary pass (which costs the same as two county passes) is valid throughout the country on interurban buses and 2nd class trains. Passes can be purchased from any starting date and are valid for 30 days.
Please note: These passes can only be used on local transport (metros/trams/buses) in the following cities: Budapest, Csongrád, Esztergom Érd. Until 31st December 2024 Zalaegerszeg. They can be used on the TramTrain (lines 1 and 1A), in the Szeged area.
Special rules also apply to passes on trains with compulsory reservation. (e.g.: IC).
It is now possible to buy a day ticket. With Hungary24 and County24 tickets you can travel 24 hours a day by train and interurban bus throughout the country. However, these day tickets do not allow you to use local transport anywhere (although you can use interurban services between stations within cities and the TramTrain in the Szeged area - lines 1 and 1A).
During the Hungarian Formula 1 Grand Prix, we recommend purchasing the Forma1 TravelPass. This pass can be used under the same conditions as the ’Pest Vármegye24’ ticket. You can use trains, suburban trains (HÉV) and regional buses in Budapest and Pest County (where the Hungaroring is located) for 24 hours. The Forma1 TravelPass is NOT valid for BKK vehicles in Budapest.
Detailed, but not exhaustive information on passes can be found below.
